Oil seals, also known as lip seals, shaft seals, or grease seals, retain lubricant and exclude contaminants in rotating shaft applications. They are available with either a single or double sealing lip.
The primary lip retains oil or grease around a rotating shaft to prevent lubricant loss, as rotating shafts often feature lubricant to reduce friction. In double lip designs, the secondary lip acts as an excluder to keep contaminants such as dust, moisture, and debris from entering the system. Oil seals for use on external applications are available upon request.
See our case study on how double lip oil seals combined with the appropriate sealing material improved an electric race car motor's performance at high rotational speeds and temperatures: Improved Engine Performance with Double Lip Oil Seals
Oil Seal Applications
Oil seals are used in industries and applications, including, but not limited to:
• Automotive – Engines, transmissions and differentials, wheel hubs, power steering pumps
• Oil and Gas – Pumps, compressors, hydraulics, wellhead
• Industrial Machinery – Gear boxes, pumps, compressors, electric motors, hydraulic & pneumatic systems
• Agricultural equipment – Tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, axles, and wheel-ends
• Aerospace – Aircraft engines, hydraulic systems, and various mechanical assemblies
• Marine – Pumps, winches, propulsion systems
We offer our large bore L1M and L2M seals in imperial and metric sizes. L1M and L2M are used for heavy duty applications such as equipment used in steel mills, pulp and paper plants, turbines, and more.
